About me

I was born in Chesham in Buckinghamshire. I gained my degree from the University of Liverpool in Biochemistry and Medical Cell Biology, and a Master's degree in Parasitology and Entomology from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.  I have worked as a scientist on viral testing and vaccine development projects.  I earned my doctorate from Imperial College in the Genetics of Autoimmune disease. I have also worked in education, as a teacher and as a lecturer at Isle of Man College.

I moved to the Isle of Man in 2005 because my husband (who is Manx) showed me what a beautiful, safe Island he lived in and this is where we have raised our family.

My husband and I are directors of Irish Sea Diving & Marine Services which trades as Discover Diving, and we work together in the business.  I have a wide range of transferable skills in communication, planning, marketing, finance and budgeting as a result.  I enjoy scuba diving and snorkelling and feel privileged that I am able to visit the beautiful underwater world.

In 2016, I was elected to Port St Mary Commissioners and I became the Chair in 2018.  I helped steer the Board through many problematic issues and to get the Board back on a stable financial platform, with tight controls on budgets and spending. Local government was an excellent introduction to the workings of national government and our legislature. I didn't stand for re-election in 2021 because I was intending to stand in the 2021 General Election.

In 2021, I was elected to the House of Keys.  I have served as a departmental member in the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (with responsibilities for Regulation and Environment), the Department for Enterprise (responsible for Business Isle of Man) and the Department of Health and Social Care (Manx Care Mandate oversight) until February 2024 when I moved to Treasury (responsible for Social Security).  In November 2024 I became Minister for the Department of Infrastructure and served until January 2026.  From January 2026 until the House of Keys was dissolved for the election, I served as a backbench MHK.
